3 Beautiful Things to Do around Colorado Springs

Although we didn’t spend much time in Colorado Springs, we definitely explored the surrounding area. Here are 3 beautiful things to do around Colorado Springs that I recommend.

3 beautiful things to do around Colorado Springs

Explore the Garden of the Gods

Even if you’ve seen the wonders of Arches, Capitol Reef, or Canyonlands, you will still greatly enjoy a hike through this city park. The red rock steeples, spires, and massive walls are certainly impressive. The main trail will take you around the most picturesque outcroppings with beautiful views over Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains. Arrive early otherwise you may be hiking among crowds of visitors. Weekends and holidays are particularly popular, so plan accordingly.

Enjoy the views of Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak is one of Colorado’s 53 fourteeners – mountains with an elevation of at least 14,000 feet. Also known as America’s Mountain, Pikes Peak is a destination in itself. You can drive to the summit along the 19-mile long Pikes Peak Highway. It is a toll road, so be prepared to pay an entrance fee. In July of 2021 the price was $15 per adult. If you decide not to drive to the top, find some great views of the mountain and admire it. We were camping at South Meadows Campground around the little community of Woodland Park which had lovely views of Pikes Peak.

Visit the Royal Gorge

Essentially an hour and a half away from Colorado Springs, Royal Gorge attracts over 300,000 visitors annually. Most people come here to walk across the highest suspension bridge in America and peek into the deep canyon of the Arkansas. Some people, however, visit Royal Gorge to zipline over the canyon. We passed on this adventure but there were many people interested in it. The Royal Bridge and Park offer other attractions, so check them out as you plan your trip. Just be aware that the visit won’t be cheap. A single general admission ticket is about $25.
