8 Amazing Things to Do around Page, Arizona

Most people come to Page, Arizona, to do one of three things: recreate on Lake Powell, hike Antelope Canyon, or admire Horseshoe Bend. We were no different. While we did not do any boating, we did camp on Lake Powell at the Wahweap Marina campground and we loved the amazing views of Lake Powell. We also loved Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, and other attractions that the area offers. Here are 8 amazing things to do around Page, Arizona.

8 Amazing things to do around Page, Arizona

Visit Antelope Canyon

One of the 8 amazing things to do around Page is a visit to Antelope Canyon. Antelope Canyon is one of the most photographed canyons in the world. It is an amazingly beautiful slot canyon, absolutely worth visiting. I have seen multiple slot canyons but Antelope was truly the most spectacular. The canyon is located on the Navajo Land and in order to visit it you must take a tour. The tour is not cheap but it’s definitely worth it. We chose to do the Upper Antelope Canyon as my research indicated it would not make you claustrophobic, which was true. Our tour guide took great photos of us and shared some interesting facts about the canyon. He also mentioned that for best lighting, tours between 11 am and 1 pm would be ideal. We went at 2 pm in April, had great weather and thought the light was great. Highly recommended.

Hike WirePass and Buckskin Gulch

If you’re in this area and are a fan of slot canyons, Antelope Canyon is only a start. While amazingly beautiful, the other canyons here overwhelm with their enormity and massive walls. Buckskin Gulch is one such slot canyon. It is considered one of the longest slot canyons in the world and that’s why it’s on my list of 8 amazing things to do around Page. We only hiked about 2 miles of it but if you’re up for it, you can hike the entire 17 miles. Wire Pass Canyon is also great. Not too technical, but you’ll need to scramble a couple of times over rocks and tree parts and use a ladder to access the canyon. To reach Wire Pass, drive north from Page on Hwy 89 just past mile marker 25 and turn left onto House Rock Valley Road. You’ll need to drive for another 8 miles on a gravel road till you reach the Wire Pass trailhead. Follow the trail for a mile till you hit the slot canyons. Once you’re done with Wire Pass Canyon, you’ll find yourself in an area that joins Buckskin Gulch. You can turn right or left from here and hike Buckskin Gulch. We thought the section to the right was more narrow and therefore more impressive. However, both sides are amazing!

Check out the Toadstools

Along hey 89, at mile marker 19, you’ll find a trailhead for the Toadstools. It’s a short 1.5 miles hike and while the toadstools are cool, we thought the hike itself was more impressive.

Admire Horseshoe Bend

It was our second time visiting Horseshoe Bend and, as before, the views were amazing. I consider the site one of the symbols of the American Southwest. Come visit in the off season or early in the day to avoid the crowds. There is a $10 parking fee but the parking is convenient and the hike is short. There is now a great viewing platform that offers a full view of the Horseshoe Bend and the Colorado River. You can hike away from the crowds and find a peaceful spot to admire this amazing view.

Hike the Hanging Gardens

Basically right outside of Page, the trail to and around Hanging Gardens is exceptional. Not only will you see an alcove underneath a cliff covered in ferns creating a hanging garden but you can climb up onto mesas for amazing views of Lake Powell. We spent quite a while climbing up the rocks, taking pictures, and admiring the scenery.

Explore Lake Powell

We were hoping to take a tour to Rainbow Bridge and at the same time enjoy the scenery of Lake Powell from a boat. Unfortunately, all the tours were sold out, so we decided to check out the different viewpoints over Lake Powell by going on our own little tour by car. Wahweap Marina campground provides beautiful views of the lake and we enjoyed them for 4 days. Additionally, we drove to the Lone Rock area, Antelope Point, and the Glen Canyon Dam. Truly, the scenery is spectacular!

Learn about Glen Canyon Dam

Glen Canyon Dam is located right outside Page. It is an enormous structure that was built in 1966. The dam provides water to multiple states, among them Utah, California, Nevada, Arizona, and Colorado. Walk across the bridge and look into the canyon and at the massive dam. The views are fascinating.

Drive to Marble Canyon and the Navajo Bridge

I really enjoyed this short trip to the Marble Canyon. I’m always impressed by the canyons the Colorado River has carved and don’t miss an opportunity to check them out. The twin bridges you’ll find here are interesting. You can walk along the old historic bridge and look deep into the canyon. If you’re lucky, you may be able to spot a condor. We did.
