Montreux- Home to Mountain Studios

My husband and I went to Montreux to visit Mountain Studios, Queen’s recording studio, which they owned for over 20 years. Although there are many reasons to visit Montreux, Queen was the draw for us.

The band recorded 8 albums there and Mountain Studios was also the place where Freddie Mercury recorded his last song- Mother Love.

Mountain Studios has been turned into a small museum located in Casino Barrière de Montreux. Entrance is free and if you’re in Montreux, I absolutely recommend a visit.

There is also a great statue of Freddie Mercury on the lakefront. The statue was placed there 5 years after his death in 1996. Queen spent lots of time in Montreux, so it’s particularly appropriate for the statue to be there.

In addition to the recording studio, Montreux offers several other attractions. Its International Jazz Festival is well known and brings a lot of visitors to town in the summer time.

Montreux’s natural setting is spectacular and many people spend their vacation here. The town sits right on Lake Geneva and is surrounded by the high Alps. Although we didn’t take a boat, a boat ride to a nearby town would certainly be enjoyable. There are fairly frequent boats leaving from the waterfront and tickets can be purchased right there.

Strolling along the lake is very pleasant- the views are absolutely wonderful. Walking up to the old town is also a fun thing to do, especially if you want to see Lake Geneva from above.

Old Town

We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip from Geneva to Montreux. The Queen’s Mountain Studios were a highlight but even if you’re not a fan, you’ll certainly enjoy the town. Remember to buy your train ticket via SBB mobile app. That will save you a lot of money.
